  • The Guardian has a feature on the awesome Arctic Monkeys today! I love them!
  • The Killers new material will make you feel dirty.
  • Gaz sent me this Morrissey track that was leaked back before 'You Are The Quarry' was released. Sigh. I heart it. I heart everything he does.
  • I quite like this new band from Boston called Aberdeen City.
  • Lady Sovereign is leading a "Save The Hoodie" campaign! It also conveniently ties in with her new single "Hoodie" which you can hear on the site.
  • From this week's Popbitch... "The Gorillaz single was supposed to have been called "It's There", but after about 100 takes, Shaun Ryder still hadn't got it right, so the band decided to change it to Dare." Bahahah.

i wanna go to rehab... for a vacation

  • Paddingtons guitarist Marv Hines got drunk recently and smashed a glass through his hand. Major damage! It may take a whole year for him to recover! ... There's many reasons why some people become musicians and not rocket scientists. This is one of those reasons.
  • Blur talk about the direction of their next album and practically admit everything sucks without Graham.
  • Noel Gallagher thinks modern hip hop stars (like 50 Cent and The Game) are idiots... and he's right. As always.
  • Radiohead's Thom Yorke to meet with British PM Tony Blair to discuss government policy on climate change. Let's hope this is just a one-off... We don't need another Bono.
  • Kate Moss has checked herself into rehab. Smart move.
  • Courtney Love has vowed never to show her breasts again in public. THANK THE LORD.

i feel like garbage. and i'm not talking about the band.

  • Interpol are in town tonight so bust out the black clothes!
  • Listen to the new Franz Ferdinand album, 'You Could Have It So Much Better'.
  • Check out the nominees for the 2005 MTV Europe Music Awards. This year's host is Sacha Baron Cohen ("Ali G") as Khazakstani TV journalist Borat which will obviously be awesome.
  • Britney Spears is expected to make $6 million for having a baby. That's just not right.
  • Tara Reid: "As If My Boob Shot Gandhi".

  • It was bound to happen sometime... Pete Doherty in trouble for his underage groupie antics!
  • Shaun Ryder won't bother offering Kate Moss advice on her drug habit. He's the LAST PERSON ON EARTH I'd go to if I was trying to get off the drugs.
  • The amazing Andrew Kendall made a cool Babyshambles slideshow thingy after coming off tour with the band!
  • Kaiser Chiefs featured in The Guardian this weeked! I admire them so much for their hard work and ambition!
  • Gee, I wonder which one's Charlotte!?!The Sun has pictures of Charlotte Church wearing a latex outfit... and, without saying a word, included a picture in the story that draws comparisons between her and Little Britain's "Daffyd". So mean!
  • I need to get rich by 2007 so I can go to Glastonbury with this.
  • This is the best funny-cos-it's-true thing I've seen all weekend... Everything Sounds Like Coldplay Now!!!

  • Radiohead are back in the studio.
  • The Guardian has an awesome feature on Ian Brown today!
  • Arctic Monkeys tickets (for the Toronto show) are finally on sale at Ticketmaster.

    indie bingo

  • Morrissey's making a balls-to-the-wall rock record! Whaaaa?
  • John Peel tribute CD to be released. Sounds awesome.
  • Radio rip of Kate Bush's new song "King Of The Mountain".
  • Pete Doherty's happy to be clean! But not-so-thrilled about his subsequent weight gain!
  • Franz Ferdinand recently stopped in at XFM to talk to Lauren Laverne about Kylie and gangs and stuff.
  • Speaking of, I've been listening to Lauren Laverne on XFM (the best radio station in the world, in my not-so-humble opinion) for ages now and I can't recommend it enough!!! She currently hosts the drive-time show, weekdays from 4-7pm UK time (or 11am-2pm Toronto time), and you can always count on hearing some good tunes and having a laugh! Plus there's Indie Bingo! Check it out!
  • How awesome was America's Next Top Model last night!?! I totally love Kim (Lesbian) and Kyle (Dairy Queen)!

    bitches in the news

    Monday, September 19, 2005

kate moss is the new pete doherty

  • Poor Kate Moss had a rough weekend in the British tabloids. Former Babyshambles manager James Mullord says she's naive and commended her on making spliffs out of tampon tubes. Futhermore, Rebecca White, a personal assistant in the fashion industry, says Kate tried to sedue her and was whacked out on blow at a charity dinner in aid of Nelson Mandela's children's fun... And now there is talk of threesomes, rumors she's headed to rehab and reminders of just how fucked up her love affair with Pete is... Anyway today they say she's dumped Pete and he's gone on a £50,000 drug-and-booze bender. Sigh. Oh how I love the British tabloids.
  • Pictures of Pete Doherty in Ibiza on Friday and Babyshambles in the studio.
  • New Order are headlining a concert in honour of John Peel! They will be joined by Super Furry Animals and The Fall!
  • Arctic Monkeys are #1 on the NME Chart! Fuckin right!
  • Remember how a few weeks ago everyone was trying to get there hands on The Streets mix of Bloc Party? Yeah well Gorilla VS Bear has a link!
  • Read Alex Kapranos new column "Soundbites" in The Guardian. It's short.
  • Manic Street Preachers are trying to save their old school. Cute.
  • The pinkest wedding I've ever seen. Suprisingly not sponsored by Pepto Bismal.
  • I think I'm in love with Kiera Knightly! Really!
  • Check out the cutie I came across at the bus stop Saturday morning!

the girl with everything to lose

    the devil has spawned

  • Britney Spears gave birth to a baby boy yesterday. I'm not surprised she copped out and had a Caesarean section "to avoid the pain of a natural birth". Pussy.
  • Kate Moss has been caught using cocaine in the studio with Babyshambles. What a fucking idiot!
  • Morrissey’s acceptance speech for the Linda McCartney Memorial Award at PETA's 25th Anniversary Gala and Humanitarian Awards Show.
  • Didz from The Cooper Temple Clause has now joined Carl Barat's new band! Fuck that's gonna be one smokin hot band.
  • Prince Harry turns 21 today and has announced that after his army career is over he intends to dedicate his life to charitable work. Bless his heart.

    beauty and the beast

    Tuesday, September 13, 2005

    sweet heart attack

I'm a little overwhelmed these days. Here's the deal.
    1. It's still smokin hot outside and my apartment doesn't have air-conditioning so I'm living in conditions over 30'C in fucking mid-September. Ridiculous.
    2. My internet connection is wiggity whack and barely works between 8am and 8pm. I have a technician coming this afternoon to check it out but it might not be fixed for another week or so. Or ever.
    3. I'm back in school and, for once in my life, I hate it. I've wanted to drop out since the first day and have spent many hours crying about it to my parents (because I am a big sucky baby) but, after speaking with my friends, I've decided not to drop or change any courses and instead to take the massive workload as a challege. However, this will likely mean that I won't be able to blog as regularly as the semester progresses - but rest assured that everything will be back to normal by December.
Anyway, the point is that (aside from venting) I'm just letting you know things might be different around here for a little while...

For now, back to your regularly scheduled blogging.

  • Make Poverty History regrets joining forces with Bob Geldof and Bono with the Live 8 concerts because they hijacked the cause. Gee, y'think!?
  • Speaking of... The Make Poverty History commercials have been banned in Britain because of their political content. No more catchy snapping.
  • Wilco are releasing a two-disc live CD. 'Kicking Television - Live in Chicago' is released on October 31st.
  • Happy Mondays are releasing new single "Playground Superstar" next month (I hope it doesn't suck) and announced a bunch of live dates including a massive homecoming show.
  • Ian Brown sponsors a London football team. Why London?
  • The Charlatans' Tim Burgess talks about the bands new "darker sounding" album to XFM.
  • Oasis dedicate "Live Forever" to Katrina victims and "Don't Look Back In Anger" to "people of Mexican origin". "People of Mexican origin"? What the fuck is that about?
  • Monday, September 12, 2005

    nobody's nothing

  • Pete Doherty says he married Kate Moss in secret. Whatever. What really matters is that the debut album from Babyshambles is being released on October 10th (my birthday)!
  • Pete Doherty's Bala Chadha website is proving to be problematic. For the record, I voted "put down da pipe geeza" in the "Is Smoking Crack Cool?" poll.
  • Check out smokin hot Morrissey in the new issue of GQ.
  • Charlotte Church has a crush on Ricky Wilson. Cute. I think she's my new favourite bad girl - even if only half of this stuff is true!
  • The new Franz Ferdinand album has been leaked.
  • Hear clips from the new War Child 'Help: A Day In The Life' album. Link from Torr.
  • Take Your Medicine has a great Arctic Monkeys post in case you haven't been so fortunate as to hear anything from them yet.
  • Andrew Kendall posted his Arctic Monkeys photographs from Leeds Festival 2005. Why do I find them attractive? Why?
  • Michelle posted some great pics from the Stellastarr* gig at the Horseshoe on Saturday night. T'was a good show.
  • Perez Hilton met Paris Hilton!
  • While it was fun oogling Charlotte Church's breasts last week, this week is all about watching this Kylie ad a few too many times and feeling like a bit of a perv.
  • Friday, September 09, 2005

    school day

  • Today's my first day back at school. Pray for me.
  • Babyshambles joined in on the 'Help: A Day In The Life' album at the last minute. Oh and so did Coldplay!
  • Are Pete and Kate engaged? Does anyone care anymore?
  • Art Brut split with their guitarist.
  • Ian Brown doesn't like the monkey comparisons.
  • Speaking of monkeys, there's video of Arctic Monkeys "I Bet You Look Good on The Dancefloor" on their site. It's sparse to say the least and I've developed some weird attraction to most of the band members for reasons I cannot explain.
  • Depeche Mode announce their first North American tour in more than four years. They roll into Toronto on December 1st at the ACC.
  • CBS airs Fashion Rocks tonight with performances from David Bowie and The Arcade Fire.
  • Rolling Stone magazine has published Hunter S Thompson's suicide note. Classy.
  • Paris Hilton on the October cover of Vanity Fair. Can't help but notice she's using the old 'push down your boobs down to make them look bigger' trick.
  • Thoughts on The O.C. last night?
  • Sky News tells it like it is! Suck it Bush!
  • Thursday, September 08, 2005

    jiggles

Charlotte Church's new video is best enjoyed with the sound off
  • Help: A Day In The Life is being recorded today and will be available for download starting tomorrow.
  • Mike at Take Your Medicine made an awesome indie covers compilation avails for download.
  • Forgot "Rocktober" being the month for good gigs, this year it's all about November! Arctic Monkeys are scheduled to come to Toronto's Lee's Palace on Number 14th... yes that's the same night as Art Brut! What a killer double-bill! Im already convinced it'll be the best gig I'll see in Toronto all year!
  • The third season of The O.C. starts tonight!
  • The Daily Show with Jon Stewart was especially fucking brilliant the other night.
  • Jaysus! What happened to Victora Beckham?
  • The future of Tara Reid. Poor girl.
  • Wednesday, September 07, 2005

i'm wastin my life, you're changin the world

  • I can't believe Antony And The Johnsons won the Mercury Prize! Seriously, the Kaiser Chiefs got robbed!
  • Francis Bean Cobain's first interview!
  • Goldie Lookin Chain piss off the Beckhams! Well done boys.
  • Micheal Jackson's undergoing a style makeover... or, as Thierry called it, a "Jacko-ver".
  • My best friend Ian is leaving for Peru today. He'll be doing humanitarian work there until Christmas and I'm incredibly proud of him for doing so... but I can't write anymore or I'll get all emo...

    no resurrection

    Monday, September 05, 2005

i love you i don't think you care

  • Summer is over. Today I'm completing the move back to my apartment.
    Muddy teeth not pictured.
Last night, while packing, I found my travel toothbrush from Glastonbury and noticed the whole thing was covered in MUD - and instead of being disgusted I got all sentimental - 50 years from now I'll be telling my grandkids about the summer of 2005 when I did so many drugs at a music festival that I was brushing my teeth with dirt... Sigh. What a summer of memories.
  • Babyshambles are heading out on a UK tour at the end of the month! I hope it works out this time!
  • Art Brut tell the kids to “steer clear of crack, and steer clear of Pete Doherty, he’s a very bad man.” I still love them.
  • And speaking of, ART BRUT ARE COMING TO TORONTO! November 14th at Lee's Palace!
  • Check out this old picture of Brandon Flowers from last week's Holy Moly. They also had news on Robbie Williams getting a hand job and Ricky Wilson's alter-ego 'Heavy'.
  • Damien Hirst, who directed Blur's cheeky "Country House" video, recently bought himself a big house in the country. *cough* sell-out! *cough*
  • The Guardian has a fantastic interview with MIA! She talks about everything (even about being roommates with Justine Frischmann)!
  • Everyone still talking about Kanye West stating "Bush doesn't care about black people" on live TV.
  • Britney plans to share the birth of her first child with TV audiences... but it's for a good cause.
  • Alex Chilton (Big Star) is still listed among the missing in New Orleans but he was spotted at a bar on Wednesday. Phew.
  • Here's your chance to ask Ian Brown a question without having to worry about getting assaulted.
  • Take Your Medicine has a few tracks by Yeti available for download. As you may or may not know, Yeti is a band fronted John Hassall who used to play bass in the Libertines.
  • Go to Gorilla VS Bear for the new Metric single "Monster Hospital". I find it irritating.
  • OMG! Paris Hilton's boob popped out in Toronto and I missed it! ... Uh, nevermind.
  • On a completely unrelated note (to anything), I went to Canada's Largest Ribfest over the weekend. I'm proud to say I acquired my delicious half-rack from "Sticky Fingers" on account of them having the most rock'n'roll name.
  • Good luck to all the students out there getting ready to start or head back to college or university this week!
  • Friday, September 02, 2005

the best things come from nowhere

  • XFM's Xfest is awesome! Relive the glory of The Libertines with this spectacular performance from the good old days! And by "good old days" I mean 2002.
  • Franz Ferdinand have new behind-the-scenes video clips every week until the new album's release.
  • The White Stripes announced details of their first ever live webcast.
  • Elijah Wood to play Iggy Pop? Seriously? Frodo?
  • Louis XIV are playing a show at The Mod Club tonight. I'd go but I can't afford to drive there and buy a ticket. Ah, I'm back to feeling like a broke student again.
  • So "The Husband" raved to me about this song by Guillemots called "Made Up Love Song #43". Torr posted a link to a jukebox where you can hear it (just click through a few tracks until you find it). It's cute but not as spectacular as I had hoped.
  • I still haven't heard from anyone that went to Paris Hilton's appearance in Toronto yesterday.
  • I really like Charlotte Church. Not her singing or anything - but, like, her drinking and partying and PDAs with her boyfriend.
  • I'm halfway moved back into my apartment. First night back and my dishwasher decided to overflow with bubbles... At least my guests found it entertaining.
  • Have a great long weekend everyone! Enjoy the last of summer!
  • Thursday, September 01, 2005

    i dont think so

  • The move may or may not happen today so I figured I'd post a few links anyway. Wish me luck.
  • Kaiser Chiefs still on their best behavior despite all their success. To be honest I kind of admire that about them.
  • New Order at set to release a new DVD and singles compilation. I look forward to the day when this one can replace the current New Order video that I've ended up watching on an almost weekly basis at Alana and Olga's place this summer.
  • Mike at Take Your Medicine has posted his account of Reading Festival. We like him.
  • Since I'm NOT able to go see Paris Hilton today I hope everybody else that does takes lots of pictures!
  • Whoa. This shit is ridiculous.
