morrissey 's war against canada

Morrissey has announced he will not be bringing his tour to Canada - in protest against the seal hunt.

What the fuck? The Morrissey fans aren't the one's responsible for the seal cull!!!

Morrissey, I will protest your stupid protest by not buying your shitty new CD.
I love you but this is fucking retarded.

I'm sure Stephen Harper and our fisheries minister are going to be really disappointed. Normally I'd laugh at something like this, but it's too stupid. Toronto Morrissey concert-goers have [likely] nothing to do with Newfoundland, let alone the seal hunt.

Mike - This is one CD I will not buy. As a matter of principle - And the fact it sucks.

Anonymous - Yeah I definately feel no guilt stealing it now.

Mary - Yeah Morrissey is being very short-sighted on this one.

Gilberto - Yes. Yes you are ;)

michael k - I am sooo upset and, like, betrayed by this. This is quite cuntish behaviour - never would have expected it from Moz!

You know, this is going to make me hugely unpopular, but I really want to tell all the people, particularly the foreign people, protesting the seal hunt to go fuck themselves.
The Northern Penninsula of Newfoundland has an average household income of like $17,000. People are living in third world conditions in a first world nation up there, and the five or six grand they can bring in in a few weeks of sealing is big, big money for these people. So unless Moz and Bridget Bardot and Sir Paul are willing to put their money where their mouths are and invest in starting green, sustainable industries in those communities, they can go blow it out their asses.

Jason - I love his music but I could do without his extreme politics.

Fen - Ahahah! That'll teach him!

Celebrity DJ Chris Dart - Chris I couldn't agree wit you more! I was thinking earlier today that if all these rich celebrities really care they'll start PAYING for other ways to sustain Canadians and the fishing industries. SO GHEY!

kat - Seriously! I'm so mad!

"People are living in third world conditions in a first world nation up there"

Being from Newfoundland myself, I find that a touch offensive. Making $17,000 a year is not much, but by no means is it "third-world".

But your point is still valid.

Colin, I didn't mean to offend, I was just paraphrasing some Newfoundland expatriot friends of mine. That's what they said.
Sorry for and hurt feelings, bro.

i completely agree with all of you. The one thing that is rather misconstrewed is the fact that the McCartneys et al are saying that Canadians kill BABY seals. um, that's not true. there's laws against that. it's called poaching.

but, in light of this outrage, i'd like to toot another, very similar horn.... all of you who live in southern ontario and heard how activists IN TORONTO lobbied for the abolishment of the Northern Ontario Bear Hunts, where the fuck where you??? This is the same situation. Without the bear hunt, as with the seal hunt controversy of today, the bear population has grown out of control and the North is significantly lacking in economic funds it relies so heavily on. no baby bears are ever killed and no momma bears are allowed to be killed either. sorry to be a little rude but i must say the canadian sentiment on this issue as a whole sounds a little hipocritical to me....

this just coming with a girl who sees bears in her front yard (in a neighborhood in a CITY) at least once a month during the summer.
