time for heroes (cos i just lost mine)

This Morrissey VS Canada drama is still infuriating me. I've considered myself a dedicated Morrissey fan for years but for him to disrespect his Canadian fans like this appalls me. Why punish us for something we have no control over? Many of his fans are animal activists (like myself) and others may support the seal hunt (sometimes I also fall under this category too) for logical reasons - but NO ONE wants to see innocent animals killed. All in all, it is a terrible predicament and no joy comes from it. Especially not now.

While I respect his right to state his position, his chosen course of action will only hurts his fans.

I for one think he's being incredibly unfair and ignorant... And I will not buying his new album because of it.

Oh and, like, Pete Doherty would totally never pull this shit. And he's Pete Doherty.

Have you considered emailing Morrissey? Or better yet... boycotting Morrissey?

Am I mistaken, or is fox-hunting still legal throughout the United Kingdom?

ned hepburn - Ahaha, i don't think it would help.

anonymous - Nah, I won't bother writing a letter... but I certainly won't be buying his new album or supporting it on this blog.

Fen - Yes it is. And that's what pisses me off. He's so openly critical of Britain and America so why not cancel tours there? Could money come into it perhaps?!? I think he's just coming off like a fucking hypocrite.

Morrissey's never been one to contemplate things carefully. He just does or says what he believes to be correct at the time—consequences be damned. Now I'm all for celebrities lending their name to a cause they believe in because for some inexplicable reason we seem to regard their opinions on absolutely everything so highly that what they say is not only newsworthy but it gets really prominent coverage. We really need to stop doing this.

If Morrissey (along with Bardot and McCartney) wanted to make a difference in the seal cull he (they) should get together with the PM, the premiers of the Atlantic provinces, the hunters and some panel of experts on animal rights and the seal population in the Atlantic with the purpose of trying to reach an agreement. Now that's ideal and seeing that Morrissey wouldn't likely reverse this decision unless the whole thing's called-off I'd be satisfied if he went to the politicians and and the hunters and said 'what's it going to take to stop this thing'?If it's a matter of jobs and money then crack out that cheque book and put some stipulations on the cash.

Also I think he's being half-assed by allowing the record to be sold in Canada. Yes pulling it would encourage piracy but currently we've got sketchy antiquated laws on downloading anyway. If anyone still wanted to buy the record there's always a trip to the United States or getting one imported.

As you said right now he's just hurting fans. But I'm glad you're doing your part by not buying his album and posting here.

Pete Doherty would never do this shit! We would probably smoke the baby seal fur and inject their blood. The man knows his shit.

CBC had a great investigative report type deal about the seal hunt. The reporter took a look from the perspectives of both the protesters and the sealers. It really exposed (to me) the double standard of how far separated city folk are from their food. It's alright to kill cows, pigs, chickens and all kinds of other animals as long as they're not cute, because then its just wrong apparently. It doesn't make sense. Seals are killed just like every other animal.

the Moz may not be smart enough, but maybe, just maybe, he's trying to get a rise out of the Canadian fanbase into writing many many angry letters to the Canadian government and advocating much more strongly animal rights. In this way, changes occur and he can go back to Canada. Possible?
