"It is with regret that The Libertines announce they are to continue without singer and guitarist Peter Doherty due to his well-known addiction problems, specifically with crack cocaine and heroin… Peter is and always will be a Libertine and when he cleans up from his addictions he will be immediately welcomed back into the band… This decision is made with love and with no disregard to Peter and his problems. The other members of the band - Gary, John and myself - have come to this conclusion after three recent failed rehab attempts, all of which The Libertines have funded… Peter’s erratic mental state worries us greatly and having him on tour would only compound his problems. We aim to complete all existing tour commitments without him."

The Libertines have decided to carry on without Peter Doherty.

Apparently Modest Mouse are playing Toronto Auguust 4th at the [wince] Kool Haus [/wince]. From Chromewaves. Great new MP3 blog, Scenestars! Douglas Coupland’s attempts to deconstruct the Canadian identity. Again. Tomorrow is Canada Day. Be proud to live in a great country where "double-double" is now in the dictionary!

I'm as sick as Micheal Jackson loves children.
Glastonbury photos! It seems Wellies were the weekend’s ultimate accessory! Sadly, there was tragedy for Muse at Glastonbury. Drummer Dominic Howard’s father died suddenly on-site just after watching his son’s band perform. So sad. Fahrenheit 9/11 breaks records. "Buy yourself a nice budgie." Morrissey’s NME interview. Part 1 & Part 2. It’s genius. The new Ash video for "Starcrossed" is excellent... And the boy in it kinda reminds me of Gael Garcia Bernal. So pretty. The Music talk about festivals and a video interview with the band at Homelands. Over a million people came out to this year’s Toronto Pride Parade yesterday! Tbonedotcom’s got pictures! Oh and Tbonedotcom also has pictures from The Streets show. It was fucking great (as was the pre-gig poutine) but that kid Mike Skinner needs to lay off the drugs. Seriously. Eww! Frog Baby! From Seanski.

Stephen Harper (Conservative) = George W Bush (Republican)
Paul Martin (Liberal) = John Kerry (Democrat)
Jack Leyton (NDP) = Ralph Nader (Green)
All the young people wanna vote Leyton/Nader as a matter of principle but their worried that since the race between the other two is sooo close that “the enemy” Harper/Bush could end up as the leader of their country. What’s a kid to do?. Should one take the safe route (and vote Martin/Kerry) OR should they vote for who they feel is the best candidate? Hmmm…

I don’t wanna tell you how to vote but I’m going to do it anyway...
ANYWAY
The 2004 MMVAs went down last night. It was terrible but there were few notable highlights:
The opening performance from The Beastie Boys was stellar! I was beaming like a proud Mum at my old pal Ben (Billy Talant). The singer from Sum 41 actually looked attractive. Hilary Duff looked surprisingly fugly (and she sucks for being the only performer to lip-synch). Oh and Hawksley Workman looked like a gangster. Justin Hawkins (The Darkness) looked fab in his leather pants. And, er, who the fuck invited Alexisonfire??? Chartattack has some behind-the-scenes gossip.

I'm going out to the country for the weekend to visit my best friend evs. It will be amusing. Like 'The Simple Life' but better (i.e. me instead of Paris Hilton). I will visit a farm, I will try to touch a barnyard animal, AND get a picture of myself holding a pitchfork. I will likely go to a BBQ, get drunk at "The Tibby" and sleep in a someone's backyard... I'm bringing my camera and I can guarentee the photos and stories I bring home will be AWESOME!!! Miss me loads! Next update will be Monday!
The Illustrated Smiths rules! The New York Dolls triumphant return! Franz Ferndinand sell their millionth album. Tracklisting for the new Interpol album ‘Antics’. Obligatory daily Pete Doherty update.

Oh Millhouse... "How come you get a social worker? I’M THE ONE WITH STIGMATA!"
Attention cheap Torontonians! Andy Stochansky is playing a free show tonight, starting at 8:45 pm sharp, so haul ass to Dundas Square (Yonge & Dundas). James tells me that 'Amazing Grace' a documentary about Jeff Buckley might be premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this September 2004. And if you’re a Jeff Buckley fan you might wanna check out Jeff’s band’s new incarnation The A.M.. Their new single is called Utopia and they’re about to embark on a brief UK tour. Great. Now I look like a liar... Johnny Ramone is not dying after all. There’s gonna be a NEW Duran Duran album! You know you love 'em! Dear Cooper Temple Clause. I love you. I love your hair more. Love Miss Valerie. From KarenPlusOne. Best headline I’ve seen all week! Thanks Stereogum. BUUUURRRN!

All I wanna do is go to bed... This will suck... I apologize in advance!
Here’s a scan of The Killers article (and pretty photograph) from the new issue of Spin. My love goes out to Miss Sarah for informing me that the schedule for Rock City Festival is up on motorcityrocks.com. Bless... I’m definitely gonna be trying to make an appearance! I wanna be a Doctor of Music too! Bob Dylan is being awarded an honorary degree from St Andrew's University. Information on the new Legacy Edition of Jeff Buckley’s Grace! I feel like an asshole for posting this but... Rivers Cuomo on myspace.com. Don’t be hounding him to get on his friends list. Give the boy some space. From 10:51am Toronto.

WOW. Working sucks. I never thought it would be relaxing to come home and blog!
The Simple Life 2: Road Trip starts tomorrow! It's been far too long... Michael Hutchence must be turning in his grave. Morrissey is NME’s coverboy this week. Check out his handpicked tracks: 'songs that will save your life'! The Music have announced details of the release of the first new material from their, as yet, untitled second album. Chris Martin wrote Embrace’s comeback single "Gravity". Johnny Ramone is, sadly, losing his battling with cancer... but there’s always hope. Listen to the third annual STILL ILL Smiths / Morrissey radio marathon this Thursday the 17th! The real reason Rasputin was so lucky with the ladies... I had a wonderful evening last night... Napoleon Dynamite was even funnier than I imagined and, in addition to free admission, they gave out loads of free swag like cute ringer tees (“GIVE ME YOUR TATER TOTS”), buttons (“VOTE FOR PEDRO”), and lip balm (“MY LIPS HURT REAL BAD”). So best. After all that I headed down Yonge Street (the longest street in the world feels even longer when you're stuck behind 283,746 taxis) and had myself a brilliant time at the Franz Ferdinand show. They were brilliant and sooo charismatic! Alex and Nick were having major guitar-sex and there were loads of boy-touching moments... Sigh. I wish I had brought my camera like all the other nerds. Oh well, I was too busy singing and dancing along with the surprisingly lively Toronto crowd. Apparently, Travis and Mishie were there too but I didn’t get to see them! Go to their sites as they have MUCH better accounts as well as pictures!

THIS WORLD IS FULL OF CRASHING BORES.
NME meets The Killers. The Blueprint exemplifies the best use of Microsoft Paint I’ve seen all day. Kelly Jones wears most ridiculous hat ever. Beulah have split. In case you missed it... Canadians can catch Da Ali G Show when it starts airing June 24th on Showcase!

Rock City Festival sounds amazing! ... Definately worth the trip to Detroit to see Brendan Benson, Blanche, Detroit Cobras, Greenhornes, and The Dirtbombs for FREE. Thank you to Sarah for the 411!

THANK YOU JEEBUS! The Curiousa Festival is coming to Toronto’s Molson Amphitheatre on August 9th. Bands on the bill include The Cure, Interpol, The Rapture, Mogwai, Muse, The Cooper Temple Clause and more. Thanks so much to Michelle, my belle, for the 411.
Where has all the Moz buzz gone? COME BACK BUZZ. In the meantime I’ll try to carry the torch...
Morrissey calls in sick to Craig Kilborn to go DVD shopping and for drinks at the pub! Could I love possibly love him any more?!? (From Information Leafblower) If you haven’t done so already, go stream The Killers brilliant new album “Hot Fuss” now. Pete Doherty is back in rehab. His mother followed him to France (where he had run off with his girlfriend) and had him admitted to a clinic for his problems with drug addiction. I just hope he lasts this time. Guelph’s folkie-hippie Hillside Festival will feature Metric, The Unicorns, The Arcade Fire, Pilate, Andy Stochansky, and many more. New Rilo Kiley album "More Adventurous" drops on July 27th. It's good to be a blogger (apparently)… First book deals and now Playboy offers? Where do I sign up? If only everyone paid this much attention to their sex lives... The Vice Guide To Friendship, the A-Z of Cute and An Ode To The Fat Friend.
