halloweenies

Who would have thought A-ha fans would be so defensive and mean!

Like seriously, I just asked a geniune question people!
Oh and newsflash to Europeans - very few people in North America have heard anything from A-ha since the 80's so give me a freakin break for wondering why they're winning an award.

Fuck!

devil's night

on a personal note

WHAT A WEEKEND.

First of all my car died on Friday night at a super busy Toronto intersection at rush hour in the rain. Nice. Also nice was waiting for a tow truck from CAA (which didn't in the entire 50 minutes we waited there) while people screamed, honked and swerved around me until a cop arrived and escorted me and my smoking car to a nearby garage. Then the garage didn't have the part to fix it (it's been back-ordered for 6 weeks) so I have to pay to rent a car until GM decides to make/find more of the part. Booo!

Also shitty was attending a fun Halloween party on Saturday night where, despite only technically consuming 3 drinks, I was OFF MY FACE and resulted in the 2nd worse hangover of my life.
I was dressed up like a Studio 54 patron ("70's coke whore") and my date was "Princess Diana". At the party I encountered a "Mod Wolf" (see here) and also Kenny of Kenny vs. Spenny fame who posed for a picture with me where he looks so unhappy it makes me question what I did/said to him in my drunken stopor. Good times.

Yesterday I was so hungover I couldn't leave bed until 3 p.m..

In short, I am awesome. My weekend was not.

I will give you a proper post later.

thanks hydro one!

  • There was a power outage today in North York and after 3 hours of "working" in the dark and with no phones or power, I got to go home early... THANK YOU HYDRO ONE FOR SUCKING AT DOING YOUR JOB!
  • Kate Moss isn't preggers with Pete Doherty's baby... as demonstrated in this picture of her drinking with Pete at a recent party. The Superficial said it best.
  • Liam Gallagher's been making fun of "posh lightweights" like Pete Doherty and that guy from Keane for going to rehab.
  • Is it just me or doesn't this sound like a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon? Today I was mocked at work for saying I thought it would be fun!

    babies, weddings and violence

I'm trying to make a list of 10 Canadian bands that were awesome this year... Any suggestions?

    disappearances

  • Sorry I disappeared at the end of last week... I forgot to mention I was away at a conference but I'm back now :)
  • The new Lily Allen video for "Littlest Things" is very boring.
  • Thom Yorke admits his favourite Radiohead song is "How To Disappear Completely" from Kid A. He reckons "it's the most beautiful thing we ever did".
  • The Guardian talks to Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell.
  • CBC looks at The Killers (and other bands) growing facial hair for artistic credibility.
  • Kaiser Chiefs have spent the past 6 weeks recording 22 songs to consider for their next album.
  • Girls Aloud had some harsh words for Pete Doherty last week like "I guess that if you like brown teeth and mouldy fingers, he's your guy". Those mean-spirited (yet talanted and physically attractive) bitches!
  • I went to the Toronto Raptors FANFEST yesterday. Worst organized event I've ever seen (in terms of orchestrating the massive crowd) but once I was inside the ACC after lining up with thousands outside in the cold rain everything got significantly better and it was, dare I say, fun!

    "know thyself"

  • Chart reviewed Art Brut's recent show in Toronto.
  • The Klaxons have announced 5 shows in the US. I dont care that they're not coming to Canada cos I'm not really into the new-Rave thing anyway.
  • Pitchfork gave Malajube a very kind (and deserving) review.
  • Since everything else is boring today I feel I should mention that my new favourite show is The Girls Next Door (I heart Holly and Bridget) and I have been listening to Regina Spektor's "Fidelity" way too much the past few days.

    awesome

  • I HAD AN AWESOME WEEKEND. MY FRIENDS ARE AWESOME. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.
  • Hey did anyone see Art Brut over the weekend? Tell me what I missed!
  • Jarvis Cocker played Guest Editor for The Observer yesterday. Interviewed other famous people.
  • New video from Oasis for "The Masterplan". Might also be of interest to fans of L.S. Lowry's style of painting.
  • Q Award nominees have been announced. Lily Allen VS Arctic Monkeys? My vote's for The Kooks!
  • Young, famous Americans turned up to see Lily Allen play L.A.
  • Elton John has too much free time.
  • Scarlett Johansson has signed a record deal!?! WHA?
  • Speaking of the lovely miss Johansson... Bill Murray turned up at student party in Scotland. And did the dishes. Talk about life imitating art.
  • It's that time of year again to offer up suggestions for Halloween costumes... PLEASE HELP and/or give me a good excuse not to bother dressing up this year.

why is it snowing in October?

  • It's snowing. And I didn't even wear a coat today. Shit.
  • Brett Anderson has completed work on his debut solo album. It's due out in early 2007.
  • Gruff Rhys from the Super Furry Animals has a new side project.
  • Karl Lagerfeld wants Cat Power to be the new face of Chanel. Somehow I don't equate Chanel's elegance with Chan Marshall's alcoholism and mental instability.
  • Stereogum posted a bizarre/enjoyable mash-up of Lily Allen and the Stone Roses. Nice.
  • Pitchfork drinking game. For the haters.
  • ... and bizarrely, now the sun is shining!? Only in Canada...

    help!

My girlfriends are coming down to party and celebrate my birthday with me this weekend and they like top 40 music and stuff... And I don't go to any clubs/bars that play that kind of music... Can anyone recommend a club/bar we might like that isn't like 25+ or cost more than $10 cover?

    23 is the new 22

  • Thanks for the kind birthday emails/wishes kids!
  • David Bowie will voice a new character on SpongeBob SquarePants. I’m totally serious.
  • The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins has quit the band because it makes him do lots of coke. Good call.
  • For those of you who don’t have my boyfriend hooking you up with episodes of Extras... here's Chris Martin's cameo which I enjoyed. You can find the whole episode on YouTube.
  • Broken Social Scene are so cute they make me wanna barf.
  • Oh CNN… the more you try… the more I hate you.

    getting old sucks

  • I saw Lily Allen on Sunday night. She looked adorable, she sounded brilliant... but unfortuantely because the whole thing lasted no more than 40 minutes, I was left feeling slightly cheated. Good show... but the way I was drinking I was kinda hoping it would go later than 10:30pm.
  • Last week Babyshambles cancelled the rest of their UK tour so that Pete Doherty can dedicate more time towards rehabilitation from his drug addictions.
  • Hot Chip are coming!
  • Idlewild have announced the title of their new album. 'Make Another World' is due out in February 2007.
  • Google bought YouTube for OVER A BILLION DOLLARS... FOR A WEBSITE... Fuck, I can see the appeal for advertisers but wouldn't that kind of money be better put to use like saving AIDS orphans or something?
  • I'm not posting tomorrow because I'm taking another day off to relax on my birthday.

    sometimes i lie

  • Snow Patrol owe Grey's Anatomy a thank you card! Speaking of, did anyone hear Lily Allen, The Pipettes and teeny bit of Regina Spektor's in last night's episode? I was in TV heaven!
  • I forgot to mention earlier this week that Morrissey has announced two shows around Christmastime in Manchester. Sigh. I remember when I used to be cool and go see Moz in Manchester... back before he hated Canada.
  • Stereogum said The Killers were "actually funny" on Kimmel. I wouldn't know cos I'm a square that goes to bed by 10!
  • This link is pretty much the only reason I bothered posting today. Just thought it was funny.

  • HAPPY LONG WEEKEND / THANKSGIVING CANADA!

    is it turkey time yet?

  • I’ve decided I’m not going to post tomorrow because it’s a long holiday weekend here in Canada and I want to get a head-start on DOING NOTHING.
  • New weird video from The Raconteurs.
  • Noel Gallagher’s playing a solo acoustic charity show because he’s not as mean as he’d like you to believe.
  • Some tracks from that compilation for the littlest of indie kids have popped up online. Here’s the official site.
  • I’m so excited to see Lily Allen on Sunday! I have such a girl-crush on her!
  • I know I’m a bit slow in posting this video but... I just can't resist!

    oh what a dreary day!

    this maid needs a maid

  • See Vous Play was awesome last night! I really enjoyed Les Brestfeeders and Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton (man, that girl's got issues)! You can check out live sets from all the acts on the CBC Radio 3 website.
  • Nuit Blanche was a massive success this weekend and despite me being a sleepy drunk after a delicious dinner at Lee I managed to witness a few of the events from up close (drunkenly walking into a random gallery) and afar (i.e. passing out on the cab ride to our next destination).
  • Yo what’s with all the damn school shootings? SCARY!
  • The Guardian lists the 20 best record stores in the UK.
  • Dirty Pretty Things played a show at an art gallery and Liam Gallagher turned up.
  • The Futureheads have cancelled their US tour cos their singer Barry has tendonitis.
  • Suck it Longoria!
