    europe is my playground

I'm leaving tomorrow and I'll be gone for the entire month of June.

I'm embarking on a Bad News tour of Italy and a Sex, Drugs, Rock'N'Roll jaunt in the UK... but who knows where else I might turn up.

So because I'll be too busy having fun I wont be able to update too often BUT I will try to make a few updates (you know I'm gonna wanna tell you all about Glastonbury). I've also invited a few of my favourite people to make a post or two so they can make fun of me behind my back.

    Don't miss me too much.
    Kisses bitches.

    WalkTO

I completed RunTO yesterday. Except in my case it was more like WalkTO. But I did it. And I got to bond with my little sister. And I even used a porta-potty! Give this girl some applause!

Too bad I could barely get out of bed this morning.
Respect to my aethetician for a great wax despite me not being able to lift my legs. Now that's talant. Everyone give my aesthetician some applause too!

    heaven knows i'm miserable now

Last night Damon Albarn (Blur) joined Kaiser Chiefs onstage for "I Predict A Riot" during their show at The Mod Club (Toronto). I should have been there... I actually should be there right now but, for the first time in my life, I couldn't find my fucking concert ticket (that I PAID FOR) and I'm convinced our cleaning ladies have either thrown it out or stolen it (like they've been stealing our money).

If there is a God, she fucking hates me.

    chewbacca appreciation post

  • I'm watching Chewbacca host a Behind The Scenes special. Its the best thing I've seen in ages. He should host everything on the E! channel.
  • MMVA nominees and performers have been announced. The shit goes down on June 19th.
  • Chris Martin joined Stevie Wonder onstage in New York to perform "Superstition". It was all for a good cause naturally.
  • The Vicar has Jeff Buckley covering "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side" and other Smiths covers.
  • Pete Doherty talked to the press about Kate Moss some more.
  • I love XFM so I'm super-excited about Ricky Gervais returning to the XFM studio tomorrow! Should be a good laugh. Check out some exclusive webcam footage.
  • Twiggy is set to replace Janice Dickenson as a judge on America's Next Top Model next season. Oh how I'll miss Janice.
  • The Modern Age addresses a rule I definately insist on following...
  • You might be lucky enough to see me at RunTO on Sunday followed by Kaiser Chiefs at The Mod Club.
  • Oh and I promise at lease one more post before I go...

    better late than never?

    Wednesday, May 25, 2005

    is something better than nothing?

  • Kasabian to record the 2006 World Cup Anthem? That'd be sweet!
  • Ryan Adams is on Letterman tonight! Remember him? Remember back when he used to be crazy and make posts on his website about ketchup and how pigeons are rats with wings? I miss that.
  • I was talking to my favourite jailbait Erik last night and he pointed out how Tom Cruise was behaving a lot like co-star Cameron Diaz's character in that movie Vanilla Sky when he was on Oprah the other day. It's true. Smart kid.
  • Paris Hilton enjoys some dirty dancing... with herself.
  • "Your Blog" insults. For my haters.
  • Tuesday, May 24, 2005

    seven days

  • Stone Roses guitarist John Squire wants the band to reform. You can sign the petition. In the meantime I'll be dreaming they consider filling in for Kylie at Glastonbury.
  • Stellastarr* have been in hiding for a while but they're really awesome. Take Your Medicine has "My Coco" avails to refresh your memory.
  • Ever since G sent me Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" (which was featured prominently in the season finale of The O.C.) I've been listening to it almost constantly. Simply stunning.
  • Franz Ferdinand have been throwing axes.
  • So the new Star Whores was pretty good. For me it was all about the awesomeness of Yoda and the Wookies. I also enjoyed Hayden Christensen's ripped bod and Natalie Portman's overall hotness. As for the movie itself, it was pretty good (for Star Wars) but some of the light saber fights went on forevs and I was like "Yo, lets see someone lose a limb or something"!
  • Tom Cruise on Oprah yesterday was one of the most uncomfortable things I've ever watched on TV.
  • Paris Hilton's Carl's sexy Jr ad is so hot and popular (not unlike Paris herself) that it crashed the company's server. That's hot.
  • Holy fuck! Look at Phil Spector's hair! That shit is bananas!

    we're hiring

Do you like to work for free? If so have I got the job for you!
I'm leaving for Europe in a week and I will be away backpacking for the entire month of June which means I will be unable to update... And I was wondering if anyone might be interested in playing blogger for a month or even just making a few posts. If you're up for it please post a comment or send me an email.

    Thanks

    you're awesome

    finishing my 2-4

  • Today marks the ends of the May 24 long weekend in Canada. Read about how awesome it is.
  • Kylie's on the road to recovery! Thank goodness! I was so worried!
  • Oasis have been deemed the most successful act of the last decade in the UK. The band have spent 766 weeks on the UK singles and albums charts.
  • The Darkness have lost bassist Frankie Poullain due to musical differences. The moustache will be missed.
  • The Vines are back in the studio working on a new album. There's doubt as to whether or not bassist Patrick "I can see your endorphins" Matthews will return to the band.
  • Ricky Wilson (Kaiser Chiefs) joined The Cribs onstage in Leeds over the weekend.
  • Watch British Sea Power's MTV-banned video for "Please Stand Up".
  • For The Records and Chromewaves have reviews of of the many awesome bands that passed through town last week. I admit I only made it out to MIA/LCD Soundsystem show but it was fucking spectacular.
  • Stream the new White Stripes album over at Scenestars. For some reason I find them totally unlistenable now (especially "The Nurse" and Meg's vocals on "Take, Take, Take") but I tried anyway and I guess it's alright if you're into them... Yeah, actually, I hate it.
  • Cute paparazzi picks of Kate Moss and Pete Doherty on holiday together in the south of France. I want that kind of crazy rock'n'roll love.
  • I'm going to see Star Whores tonight. I'll let ya know what I think.

    welcome home

today as we sat on a patio eating babaganoush i was bursting with pride My friend Ian returned from Peru today where he's been saving the world and charming everyone (from disabled kids to saucy shopkeepers to friendly prostitues) in Lima for the past few weeks...
The only thing better than the (awesome) pressies he brought me - bootlegged DVD and CDs (Suede!!!), gorgeous llama wool mittens, Inca Kola, and Coca tea that gives you a buzz - is having my dear friend back to watch The Muppets Wizard of Oz with...

We're happy to have you back kid!

    lyn kenney turns 22

Last year Lyn turned 21 in Wales. She looked hot. On this blessed day last year Lyn Kenney turned 21 while we were backpacking overseas in Europe. We celebrated our favourite party girl in both Dublin and Cardiff; two cities as notorious for their alcohol as Lyn Kenney is for her awesomeness.

We wish her all the best in her 22nd year.

    Love you dollface. xo

    losing my edge?

  • I can't believe Emiliana Torrini is coming to Toronto when I'm away next month. Just my luck. The good news is that I have every intention of checking her out at Glastonbury.
  • And speaking of Glastonbury I'm quite certain I will have the best time evs (despite Kylie) on account of the company (an even bigger music snob than I am) I'll be keeping. This morning he sent me a "review" of the new Ordinary Boys single "Boys Will Be Boys"...
"Jesus suffering fuck. The last thing the world needs is this bunch of talentless fuckwits shambling through their fucking songs like a bunch of students arriving at the fucking breakfast table at midday! Nobody, I mean absolutely nobody was out there begging for a fucking Suggs revival... *pants* rant over... Actually that cunt Preston needs a good old fashioned 70's style street beating. Blacked out Ford Transit, Snooker Balls in socks, you know the drill."
  • It was inevidable... Kate Moss joined Babyshambles onstage.
  • The tracklisting has been announced for the new Super Furry Animals LP 'LoveKraft'. The first single "Laser Beam" is released August 1st.
  • I love Dodge givin love to Thirteen Senses!
  • Chart reviews the Mercury Rev/Doves show but I prefer the Chromewaves review.
  • Ooh and MikeD and Chromewaves review the British Sea Power show at Lee's last night.
  • Tonight Snow Patrol and Athlete are at Kool Haus and indie metal band The Blood Brothers play The Mod Club.
  • Oooh and its also the season finale of America's Next Top Model and the Canadian premiere of Britney and Kevin: Chaotic (on Global).
  • Paris Hilton the party girl returns... It's about time.
  • Noooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
  • PS: The story of Piano Man fascinates me. (Not the lame Billy Joel one but the mystery man in England).

    get well soon Kylie's boobies

  • Kylie Minogue has been diagnosed with breast cancer... which means her headlining perfomance at Glastonbury has been cancelled as she undergoes treatment. I wish her all the best. In the meantime, blame the drummer from The Zutons like MikeD did.
  • Coldplay have announced a huge North American tour which kicks off in Toronto on August 2nd (Rilo Kiley support).
  • Damon Albarn is waiting for Graham Coxon to return to Blur before they record a new album. Might be a long wait.
  • Go to Take Your Medicine and listen to The Futureheads "Decent Days and Nights" while dancing around your bedroom in your underoos. That's an order.
  • My boyfriend Dodge has your hook up for Brendan Benson who I love and so you should love him too.
  • Liam Gallagher is tipped to play the villain in a British gangster movie. Since when can he act? (Link from MikeD)
  • Geri Halliwell talks about sex toys, her raging libido and safe sex. (Link from MikeD)
  • How much did I love Britney and K-Fed on Ellen today? TOO MUCH!
  • Paris Hilton is launching a cologne for men. Hot. We totally need to get a bottle for Modern Laundry. (Link from MikeD)
  • Louis XIV's song "Paper Doll" is wonderfully filthy fun so I'm majorly disappointed their music video became a fucking lame Suicide Girls promotion (NSFW) which no one will never even see on account of all the naughty bits. Shame. I wish people would realize you can be tastefully sleazy. Like myself, my example.

    The Decemberists heart me!

I would just like to send my dirty dirty rock'n'roll love sex to Dodge and Matt for using Colin Meloy of The Decemberists as a vehicle of their love for me.

    How romantic!

teaching the underage kids to toga

  • The Duke Spirit released their debut album Cuts Across The Land today... It's hard to believe I met them a year ago (to this week) on the streets of Manchester when their crappy van broke down. Sigh. Memories.
  • Apparently Liam Gallagher is trying out the Miami Vice look.
  • The Ordinary Boys have a new official website!
  • What's with actress/popstars morphing into one another? Observe Jennifer Lopez looking like Whitney Houston (on the crack) and Lohan looking like Hilary Duff at Wango Tango.
  • Geri Halliwell is back with a new video for "Desire" in which she looks fantastic. So fantastic that we can ignore how lame the song and video are.
  • Ironically, I finally saw the video for Hard'Fi's "Tied Up Too Tight" and despite it being a cracking song they are incredibly dull looking. Tragic.
  • Thanks to Trent for posting this adorable photo of Angelina Jolie and her son Maddox from the new issue of Vanity Vair. Best evs.
  • Did anyone else catch Dr. Tatiana's Sex Advice to All Creation on Discovery Channel last night? I found it RIDICULOUSLY ENTERTAINING.
  • I loved the return of cowbell (and Goulet!) on SNL this weekend.
  • Go to Take Your Medicine and listen to The Cribs. Because I say so bitches.
  • And, speaking of medicine, I'm off to the Doctor's so that's all for today kids.

    smelling the roses

I would personally like to thank my blog boyfriends Dodge and MikeD for this week’s love-triangle blog-drams. It’s been ever so entertaining to have two such handsome men fighting for me and I couldn’t be happier to come out on top with the best of both worlds. Nicely done boys. I hope the three of us live happily ever after in hot and sexy polyandrous sin. <3

And for the rest of you, if you wanna experience the best drama outside of The O.C. you can see the plot thicken as follows: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

RIP Blog Love-Triangle Drams, May 2005.

    lisa moorish fan #1

  • I think I’m still in shock from The O.C. drams-fest last night…
  • Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party and Keane respond to Liam Gallagher’s insults. Gotta love Ricky Wilson.
  • Speaking of the devil, Check out the new video for the Kaiser Chiefs “Everyday I Love You Less And Less”. It’s a bit too silly for my liking but fun nonetheless.
  • Chart reviews Coldplay’s recent Toronto gig. Meh.
  • Dodge has my beloved Hayden for download. We heart.
  • Thanks to For The Records for informing me that Sloan are playing the Sound of Music Festival in Burlington (psss, that’s where I'm currently living) on Saturday June 18th at 9:30pm FOR FREE.
  • From yesterday’s Popbitch: Liam takes on the Paddingtons
"Babymother to the stars has new victim"
Liam Gallagher has started a feud with Josh from indie hopefuls The Paddingtons, labelling them "fucking awful". But it's not their music Liam objects to. Their guitarist Josh has been sniffing around serial singer-fucker Lisa Moorish, who had a child with Liam a few years ago, and more recently with Pete Doherty. Liam is no doubt annoyed that his paternity cash might end up paying for not just one penniless indie musician's lovechild... but two.

  • The Dreamers star Eva Green claims Jake Gyllenhaal dropped out of the film because of the raunchy script. I love Jakey but I couldn’t imagine anyone better fitted for the role than his replacement Michael Pitt… Fuck I need to watch that film again. So much hotness.
  • Stereogum directed me to the so-bad-it’s-good Kidz Bop “Since U Been Gone” video. Cute.

    RIP Slutty McDrunk

  • WHAT THE FUCK happened on America's Next Top Model last night? How could they vote off my beloved Slutty McDrunk (Brittany) and keep Fatty McCarbs-a-lot (Keenyah). Bah. I'm not happy.
  • Thanks to ma boy Darryl for this great link to an Emiliana Torrini live set because he knows I loves her. My favourite song and current personal anthem, "Unemployed In Summertime", is approximately 46 minutes in.
  • Razorlight compare touring America with “getting your arse kicked”.
  • Britney Spears doesn't care what she looks like anymore now that she's married. Obviously.
  • 'It Girl' Sienna Miller is no longer set to play 60's 'It Girl' Edie Sedgwick. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed.
  • In addition to The O.C. tonight you might also want to check out Garbage on Letterman (CBS), Louis XIV on Conan O'Brien, and Spoon on Craig Ferguson (CBS).
  • If MikeD is the Angelina Jolie of the blog drama then I guess that makes me Brad Pitt... Not bad if I do say so myself.

fightin the summertime sniffles... with booze

  • Hillside Festival's is going to be fucking awesome this year with acts like The Arcade Fire, Stars, and The Weakerthans performing.

  • Ooh and Babyshambles have confirmed they will be playing two sets at Glastonbury this year.
  • Rolling Stones are coming back to Toronto soon to rehearse for their upcoming world tour.
  • I fucking love Shirley Manson and her slightly disturbing self-portrait.
  • Dodge offers up some Doves downloads and accuses me of cheating. Blog drama is hot.
  • I admit that Jon Stewart's investigation of the "Blogosphere" last night on The Daily Show had me in tears.
  • Check it out! "Summer" (Rachel Bilson) in an old Subway commercial!
  • Double trouble or gruesome twosome?
  • The parents are out of town. The party's on.
  • Tuesday, May 10, 2005

miss valerie VS the summer cold

Besides feeling like ASS, I actually have a lot of SHIT to do today so this post is full of random stuff stolen from other people.
  • Keane bash Oasis. Bahahahahhahah.
  • Yo Popjustice whats up with this? Thanks MikeD.
  • And speaking of PopJustice... Ladies and Gentlemen, it's Sarah M!
  • Thanks to Modern Laundry for directing me to The Huffington Post. Tons of awesome contributers including Bill Maher, Larry David, Walter Cronkite, John Cusack, Ellen DeGeneres and sooo many more.
  • Ugh. Renee Zellweger married a country singer. Lame.
  • Are any of these bitches America's Next Paris?
  • I sure hope not.
  • Erin has some advice for boys.
  • Monday, May 09, 2005

    i'm a woman AND a machine

  • Some Franz Ferdinand fans are petitioning for Alex Kapranos to grow out his hair. His response? "Er... it’s getting there."
  • Death From Above 1979 cover Bloc Party!
  • Black Rebel Motorcycle Club return with their new album HOWL on August 22, 2005. The first single will be "Shuffle Your Feet" and you can hear a clip of it over on the band's official site.
  • Thanks to G for directing me to this Creem article with Pamela Des Barres meeting up with old friends at SXSW.
  • Gotta love Liam Gallagher for encouraging the Killers VS Bravery feud.
  • Morrissey, Bowie and Paul Weller are amoung MOJO award nominees. And here's hoping The Arcade Fire win "Best New Act".

  • A few hundred more Glastonbury tickets are on sale this week to Orange customers.
  • Kelly Osbourne's still going on about her stint in rehab. Get over it.
  • Incase you flunk out of Uni there's always Whores College.

  • Sunday, May 08, 2005

    sunny afternoon

  • I caught The Outfit at Lee's on Friday. They're pretty boys. "Nightlife Girl" is hot.
  • It should also be noted how delighted I was to run into the boys from Boy at the show. I had almost forgotten how cute they all are (especially considering one will always remind me of the Unabomber). I'm a little disappointed to learn that the rumor they might be playing Glastonbury is unfounded but I still heart them. Check out a feature CBC's 'The Hour' aired about the band at SXSW back in March.
  • Holy Fuck! I ran into FUCK HAIR at Postmod!!!!!!!!!!!
  • How was Hooky DJing at The Mod Club?
  • I was kind of particularly disturbed to learn that during House of Wax the audience burst into applause and cheers when Paris got whacked. Not nice.
  • "Elvis" starring the delicious Jonathan Rhys Meyers is on CBS tonight. I can't wait!
  • Friday, May 06, 2005

    parklife is my life

  • I wanna go to Austin City Limits! Who wants to take me?
  • Studio interview with Franz Ferdinand!
  • Ozzy Osbourne has been disagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. This makes me sad.
  • I'm looking forward to Gus Van Sant's "Last Days", not for the Cobain factor, but for the Michael Pitt factor. His lips blow my mind.
  • Britney got burned by Madonna.
  • Go Fug Yourself takes on the new blonde Ashlee Simpson, Chloe Sevigny and Vincent Gallo at Coachella, and my Lohan. Awesome.
  • I still haven't recovered from the drams on The O.C. last night...
  • The dancing roommate video brings a smile to my face. (From Ultragrrrl)
  • There's loads going on in Toronto tonight so get out and hit the town. Weezer are at Kool Haus, The Outfit have a show at Lee's Palace, Postmod celebrates its 2nd anniversary at Labyrinth Lounge, and Peter Hook of New Order is DJing at The Mod Club (doors at 10pm). Have fun my pretties.

  • If you've got BitTorrent check out Primal Scream's remixed Screamadelica: Screamixadelica. (From For The Records)
  • Stereophonics are covering The Stooges "I Wanna Be Your Dog" on their upcoming "Superman" single.
  • Damon Albarn is helping Val Kilmer record an album. Link from MikeD.
  • Chart reviews Ryan Adams show at Toronto's Kool Haus on Tuesday night.
  • The Vines bassist Patrick Matthews features on the debut EP Someone Else’s Dream from new band Youth Group. The band are supporting The Music on their UK tour this month.
  • Check out Rilo Kiley's "Portions For Foxes" video because I have a major girl-crush on Jenny Lewis.
  • Props to Modern Laundry, aka Paris Hilton Fan #1, for pointing out the highly appropriate "Teen Sex" headline alongside Paris Hilton's picture on the front of Metro yesterday. We love it. Speaking of our girl...
  • Today at La Senza my favourite salesgirl told me that Paris Hilton has recently been spotted wearing one of their babydolls. In public. As a dress. With like high heels. (Naturally I bought it.)
  • Kids are sluts on MySpace. Gee, who knew?
  • I've signed up for the RunTO 10K. I predict after the first kilometre it will be more of a crawl. Everyone I've talked to about my participation in this is both shocked and horrified. Never a good sign. But you know me, I love to be controversial.

    paris hilton day

    Monday, May 02, 2005

    you love us

  • Coldplay makes history. Too bad the song sucks. Yeah I said it.
  • Chart reviews The Arcade Fire's show at the Danforth Music Hall last Thursday. People will be buzzing about these shows for weeks.
  • The Sun jumps on the Kaiser Chiefs bandwagon. It was only a matter of time.
  • So Meg Matthews is still not speaking terms with her baby's daddy Noel Gallagher. If that ugly broad only knew how lucky she had it...
Damnit, who am I kidding, she's an inspiration!
  • Listen to Colin Meloy covering Morrissey's "I've Changed My Plea To Guilty" courtesy of Stereogum.
  • Avril keeps on drinking (Canada Dry?) and making me proud!
  • Tara Reid's stomach both scares and fascinates me!
  • Paris Hilton makes selling hamburgers sexy as hell. Hell, hamburgers were sexy to begin with but Paris just adds some more OOMPH!
  • Whisky Echo was super hot and awesome - and on CBC no less! Props to the cute Italian guy who played "Carlo" and made me all excited about going to Italy in a month. Because I travel for the men! Obviously!
  • Who the fuck thought a BLOODY ZIT SLUSHY would be a good idea?
