germs

  • I didn't update yesterday because I went to see Little Miss Sunshine instead... And I'm not sorry because it was an awesome movie (and I had a hot date)!
  • Thanks to Katie for informing me that the Gallagher brothers are launching a hotel chain! Crazy!
  • Parlaphone are pretending they haven’t signed a deal with Pete Doherty.
  • Manic Street Preachers are working on a new album (their eighth)! They’re aiming for “a mix of 'Generation Terrorists' and 'Everything Must Go'” which sounds great to me.
  • Pitchfork showed me the way to the Wolf Parade video for "I'll Believe In Anything" which I like a la-la-la lot.
  • I must’ve read the Ikea catalogue 10 times but I never noticed anything out of the ordinary until I saw this on the news.
  • If only it could last forever!
  • I'm super sick with the sniffles but I'll try to get another update in before I leave for Montreal!

    drunk and disorderly

    "New York City... Sucks!"
Yeah I said it (while drunkenly heckling Misshapes at Don't Be Shy last night)... And I stand by it.
New York City is fantastic but I also like when it stays where it is and doesn't infest Toronto in the form of a massive scenester entourage clad in ridiculous costumes and lounging on "reserved" couches.
Also, I didn't think Misshapes (shown here hawking backpacks) were that great... They played some killer tracks but they also killed the sound on more than one occasion and, even worse, played the Snakes On A Plane song... Which I believe speaks for itself.

But yeah, aside from that, great to see a few of you there!

rehab is the current exclusive music industry hotspot

  • A bunch of British frontmen are all in rehab together. Isn't that kinda counter-productive?
  • An acoustic show by the Kooks almost resulting in a floor collapsing. But, like, it didn't.
  • The Raconteurs will be opening on Bob Dylan on tour this November.
  • Bernard Butler talks to The Guardian about how great guitars are.
  • The Carling Weekend (Reading/Leeds Festivals) goes down this coming weekend. To everyone I know that's going: have a little extra on my behalf.
  • I got my ticket to see Lily Allen! Will I be running into any of youz at the Toronto show?
  • I can't believe I hadn't seen Sarah Silverman's Sidekick commercial until today!?! So great!
  • Misshapes are the guest DJ's at Don't Be Shy tomorrow (Friday) night. Should be good.
  • Wednesday, August 23, 2006

i just want to cry for no reason

  • Pete Doherty's not doing too well in rehab... unless you count punching nurses as a step forward.
  • I love Lily Allen's new video for "LDN". She looks gorgeous! Can't wait to see her live this Ocober!
  • The Organ have pulled out of the Carling Weekend.
  • Irvine Welsh says his wild days are over. Pity.
  • Damian from OK Go will be on Colbert Report tonight. I have no idea why.
  • THE END.

    "vanilla ice is back?"

    getting a head start

  • V Festival (UK) happened over the weekend. For those lucky attendees, I hate you. For those wanting to know what they missed out on check NME.com.
  • Some girl from Big Brother (UK) is claiming Pete Doherty hired her as an 'escort"... And as for Pete, well, he's still in trouble with the law these days and his Mom's trying to figure out where it all went wrong.
  • Lily Allen contributed back-up vocals for the new Robbie Williams album... back before she was famous.
  • Last week Placebo announced US tour dates - little disappointed there are no Canadian dates.
  • The Killers have announced a North American tour this October.
  • Scott sent me some photos of Dirty Pretty Things show in Chicago a while back.
  • Jarvis Cocker has posted a podcast (or "Jarvcast") on his MySpace (er, "JarvSpace").
  • Have you streamed Kasabian's new album yet?
  • A sneak at White Stripes on The Simpsons. Oh and Jack White is selling his house in Detroit.
  • Just for your general knowledge, "How kissing works".

    ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Hey kids! I just wanted to give everyone fair warning that, as of tomorrow (my first day of work at a "big girl" job), things are going to change a bit different around these parts. I will aim to post every weeknight but that might not happen everyday (especially this first week) and updates will likely be shorter than I've done in the past... I'll do what I can but please understand I'm about to undergo a major change in my lifestyle and it's going to take me a while to adjust...

And yes, I am totally freaking out right now.

what goes on tour stays on tour

  • Babyshambles are releasing a new album - a compilation of songs chosen by the band called 'Back On The Bus - What Goes On Tour Stays On Tour'. LOVE THE TITLE.
  • Whoa! The Killers new video looks fucking intense!
  • Badly Drawn Boy's new video/single "Born In The UK"!
  • Culture Bully has new music from Sloan.
  • Lily Allen announces shows in LA and Chicago this October... but no Canadian date :(
  • I'm totally looking forward to watching Mean Girls under the stars tonight.
  • I think I've decided I'm taking tomorrow off as my last day of freedom before my "big girl job" starts on Monday. Deal with it. Go see Snakes on a Plane or something instead!

    selling out VS buying in

  • I hope everyone else isn't as tired as I am after that weekend. 12 hours at Canada's Wonderland on Saturday and fighting the crowds at Taste of the Danforth on Sunday = one sleepy girl who never wants to see crowds of people or eat junk food again... or at least not for another few days anyway.
  • Snow Patrol has to cancel some US tour dates over the weekend because of the terror alerts. It seems like that band will forever be rescheduling shows in North America.
  • The Horrors frontman was recently beaten up for looking androgynous.
  • Gomez are releasing a Best Of compilation next month.
  • Noel Gallagher is getting old.
  • Razorlight (and PETA) want to Canadian government to stop killing black bears. Well maybe they should pressure their own damn monarchy to switch to fake fur on the Queen's Guard hats (the reason the bears are being killed in the first place).
  • Chart talks to "Glasses" from The Futureheads.
  • Pitchfork talks to Thom York who reveals Radiohead came close to splitting.
  • Aziz Ansari is genius! Watch this!
  • Pete Doherty is trying to swallow Kate Moss' head!
  • If Stephen Colbert Was From Toronto.
  • I've resisted to urge in the past but now I'm debating taking some money for advertising. Thoughts?

    i can only disappoint u

  • Happy National Duran Duran Appreciation Day!
  • Mansun are releasing a "Best Of" next month. They really did have a lot of good songs.
  • Brazilian Girls have been added to the Osheaga line-up. Oh and you can listen to their new single "Jique" here.
  • Peaches joins PETA to protest Canada's seal hunt. I can't wait to see the print ad.
  • Turns out Carl Barat broke his collarbone while drunkenly driving a motorbike around a parking lot. Good idea.
  • Ray Davies is to receive a prestigious Icon award from BMI because he's so great and like, took a bullet and stuff.
  • Say what you want about their music but OK Go sure know how to make a video.
  • Is this the cutest picture of Nicky Wire or what?
  • Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! This has to be the worst thing that could ever happen to next year's Glastonbury in my eyes.
  • Did anyone else see this story on Primetime last night? I don't usually watch Primetime and I don't think I ever will again after that sob-session.
  • Pressure is mounting for me to give in to the skinny jean.
  • For the Canadian girls, my local La Senza stores recieved new shipments of the ITEC bra (aka, the greatest bra discovery of my life) yesterday so I encourage you to go out, get one and get change your life (or, at the very least, improve your cleavage). And yes, I am being serious.
  • OMG! Fake Prom this weekend? Already? Where has the summer gone?
  • Wednesday, August 09, 2006

and oh its oh so tawdry

  • Who was at the Sonic Youth show last night? How was it?
  • Pete Doherty's been having secret studio sessions with Mike Skinner. Pete laid down some vocals on an updated version of 'Prangin' Out' which just might be The Streets next single.
  • Dirty Pretty Things take up a good cause.
  • Jenny Lewis and Scissor Sisters have announced fall North American tour dates... and by "North American" they mean pretty much all American except for one stop in Toronto.
  • Anyone else bummed The Knife aren't coming to Toronto?
  • This September Placebo will release a 10th anniversary re-mastered version of their classic eponymous debut. I loved this album when I was 15.
  • Basement Jaxx have new music up on their MySpace site. They can do no wrong in my ears.
  • Fans of Cerys Matthews can hear some tracks off her new album "Never Said Goodbye" on her official MySpace site. Quite simply, I worship this woman.
  • Rachel (Scenestars) made a great picture post about all the dumb bitches who wore ridiculous shoes to Lollapalooza over the weekend.
  • These pictures of Britney Spears (without airbrushing) and Jessica Simpson (not looking this good) help me feel better about myself. Yes, I am sad.
  • Tuesday, August 08, 2006

i'll teach you how to swim, if you turn the bad in me into good again

  • Well I for one am very sorry to see that glorious long weekend end...
  • Carl Barat (Dirty Pretty Things) broke his collarbone last week in Taiwan. A temporary guitarist (from The Paddingtons no less) has been drafted so the tour can continue.
  • Lily Allen has signed to Capital and punches boys and hates tall, skinny blonde girls for no good reason (aw, she's like me).
  • Johnny Marr has joined Modest Mouse! Really?
  • Arctic Monkeys new vid for "Leave Before The Lights Come On". Actually very interesting to watch (great tips for picking up guys)!
  • Kasabian's new video for "Empire" features a little kid getting shot - so I hate it.
  • Posrtishead = not Danger Mouse fans.
  • The Thrills have completed work on their third album and make the obligatory "it's our best work to date" claims.
  • Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters) hopes to marry his boyfriend at Glastonbury next year.
  • Har Har! "Crack together!"
  • Just because I hate this bitch (Ann Coulter).
  • Being someone who rarely watches films this Movie A Minute website that Pete pointed out is amazing.
  • Getting so drunk that you barf is now fashionable?

    technology (still) hates me

    Wednesday, August 02, 2006

    no, thanks

  • Happy Mondays have recorded a new album. Too bad its 14 years too late.
  • Thom Yorke demands Tony Blair's resignation. I'm sure the Prime Minister has bigger problems right now than the weird singer in Radiohead.
  • New Order are heading to South America.
  • Art Brut have signed to a new UK label AND they've announced some North American tour dates (with We Are Scientists) this fall.
  • Preview the new album from The Dears.
  • A bunch of Canadian musicians are auctioning off odd stuff.
  • Goldfrapp are releasing a remix album called 'We Are Glitter' in America on October 17th.
  • This is both incredibly disappointing and embarassing.
  • James Blunt has been voted Britain's most annoying person. An accolade well earned in my opinion... Though I must admit that there are many other inviduals I find far more irritating/infuriating... Who do you think would top the list if Canada and/or America made a list?
  • Tuesday, August 01, 2006

    47 degrees celsius

  • Today's MTV's 25th birthday. No one cares.
  • Bobbie Gillespie's wedding sure looks like it was a stylish affair.
  • Thom Yorke's new video for "Harrowdown Hill". Gotta be honest - does absolutely nothing for me.
  • "THAT WAS TOTALLY UNCOOL!"
  • It's ridiculously hot out. The weatherman on TV says it feels like 47'C so be sure to take it easy! I recommend a strict regime of air conditioning + swimming pools + Freezies!
